Discover: Your Leadership is a 4-week online introductory course designed to help you gain insight into who you are as a leader and how to develop your leadership skills. It is a great first step or a refreshing opportunity for anyone working in a cultural sector organisation who is looking to develop themselves as leaders in order to transform their organisations, communities, and the world around them.
Programme Details
Discover: Your Leadership Includes
Designed to fit around and complement your day-to-day work, the programme is structured over four weeks, with each week containing a practical and reflective task for you to complete before the end of the week. Tasks won’t be assessed, but completing them is strongly recommended to solidify learning. We recommend allocating around 2-4 hours a week on the course and interacting with your peers on the course as much as possible!
During the programme, there are two live seminars (second and fourth Thursdays, 12:30 – 13:30 GMT) where you and your cohort will discuss the issues you’ve been working on.
The programme consists of four weeks of self-paced online learning:
- Week One – Know Yourself, Be Yourself, Look After Yourself
- Week Two – Assessing Context
- Week Three – Working With and Through Others
- Week Four – Take Action

The Discover: Your Leadership Programme helps you gain clear insight into who you are as a leader, where your strengths lie, and how you might develop going forward.
Good leadership is a prerequisite for true, tangible change. 21st-century arts and cultural sector challenges require leaders who can meet the challenges of a changing world. You will get the opportunity to reflect on your own experiences and skills and contextualise them using a variety of accessible tools and techniques.
The programme learning will be guided by Clore Leadership’s Leadership Capabilities Framework and Leadership Development Model.
Know Yourself, Be Yourself, Look After Yourself: Leadership development must start with self-awareness. The most successful leaders critically assess their strengths, weaknesses, motivations and values.
Leadership Capabilities Framework: Being a leader requires certain capabilities. This framework outlines the attributes, behaviours and skills required for successful cultural sector leadership.
You will learn the key leadership capabilities required for successful cultural sector leadership, develop inspirational, empowering, courageous, focused, passionate, and generous leadership capabilities, and build an actionable Leadership Development Plan to help you continue your leadership journey.

Applicants to Discover: Your Leadership need to be able to demonstrate the following:
- You are working for an organisation in arts and culture
- You are able to commit to attend one of the regular live classroom times (we will be unable to change your classroom once booked)
- That you have read the course details in full
Dates & Venue
Discover: Your Leadership is a 4-week online introduction to cultural sector leadership.
Applications are will open at the start of September 2023. Applications close 12 noon, Monday 8th January 2024
Zoom welcome meeting (both cohorts): 11th January 2024 12.00 -12.30pm
The course starts wc 15th January 2024 and runs for 4 weeks
Live classroom dates by cohort are outlined below:
- Cohort 1 – live classroom dates: Thursday 25th January 2024, 12.00-13.15; Thursday 8th February 2024, 12.00-13.15
- Cohort 2 – live classroom dates: Thursday 25th January 2024, 14.00-15.15; Thursday 8th February 2024, 14.00-15.15
You choose which live classroom and cohort you wish to join. There is capped capacity for each cohort.

The course fee is £50 + VAT.

Captioning and transcripts are available for video and audio content within the course. Live classrooms are delivered online via Zoom.
