Discover Diaries: Svetlana Leu | Week One

In partnership with our Clore Social, we’re delivering our pilot ‘Discover’ programme in Spring 2019: a four week online introduction to leadership. As part of this, we invited participants to keep ‘Discover Diaries’ – thoughts, insights and ‘notes to self’ about this new learning experience.

Svetlana Leu: Week One

I had been looking forward to starting the Clore Discover Programme since I received notification of my acceptance so when week 1 came along, I couldn’t wait to get started. I had been following Clore for sometime now and I was pleased that I spotted this opportunity to further my leadership skills under their recognised and well-respected wing.

Week 1 totally surpassed my expectations and I felt that I learnt so much and it was only the beginning of the course! Of the resources assigned, Daniel Goleman’s Leadership That Gets Results resonated with me the most. The clear outline of the various types of leadership styles was insightful and helpful. It allowed me the opportunity to reflect and identify my specific type of style and think of ways in which I could have a more positive impact by incorporating other styles into my approach.

Combined with the Clore Leadership Development Model and the various tasks for the week, this time for self-reflection was incredibly useful and eye opening. In order to be an effective leader, it is important to spend time thinking about who you are, what you bring to the role and how you can diversify your techniques. By the end of week 1, I felt a renewed energy and excitement to put what I read into practice and have been working on this ever since. The Clore Discover Programme has come at the perfect time in my career and I look forward to what week 2 has to offer!
