Programme Details

Emerging Leaders Includes:

A week-long residential programme, providing a comprehensive learning experience to develop your leadership skills. Attendance at the residential week is compulsory.

Course Content – The curriculum covers three main areas:

  • Your Leadership Style: Through workshops on self-leadership, inclusive leadership, and leading others, you’ll explore various leadership styles and the value of diversity.
  • The Business of Leadership: Gain essential business skills with sessions on financial management and strategic planning, crucial for cultural leaders in today’s world.
  • Leading Others: Enhance your ability to influence others, navigate challenging conversations, advocate effectively, and collaborate in leading and managing change.
  • Post-Course Mentoring – After completing the residential program, you’ll have the opportunity to join a mentoring program for ongoing support and guidance.

Eligibility Criteria

We are looking for a diverse range of participants who will bring a breadth of experience to the course and animate the group learning. To help us create the best possible mix of people we will be looking for applicants who can demonstrate:

  • 2-5 years’ experience in the cultural sector with some experience of initiating and/or managing projects and people
  • An ambition to lead, a sense of purpose and vision
  • A desire to better understand leadership
  • Self-awareness, reflective skills and an openness to learning 
  • A commitment to and passion for the cultural sector
  • Curiosity and desire to learn about the wider context of culture

Our courses are supported by Arts Council England and to be eligible for a subsidised place applicants must be:

  • Working in England (normally in the arts, museums and/or libraries sector)
  • Committed to developing their career as a cultural leader in England

Applicants outside the UK 

We do welcome applications to our courses from applicants based or working outside of the UK, but our unsubsidised course fee would apply and you should check your eligibility for any bursary you are applying for. Our course content is delivered in English and overseas course participants would be responsible for making their own travel arrangements and securing the visas neccessary to attend the course.

Costs & Funding

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, Clore Duffield Foundation, and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, we can offer subsidised course fees to eligible applicants. The subsidised fee bands for 2023 are:

Band A (1-50 employees): £600 + VAT

Band B (50+ employees): £800 + VAT

The unsubsidised cost of an Emerging Leaders course place is £2,300 + VAT. Limited unsubsidised places are available, with priority given to those eligible for subsidised fees. We also offer bursaries detailed in the Bursaries section.

Included in your course fee:

  • Private room accommodation at the course venue
  • All meals and refreshments (three meals a day, tea & coffee, and refreshment breaks)

Not included:

  • Travel to and from the venue
  • Alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks with or after dinner
