Think-In: ‘Place/s at the Table: A review of disability and governance in the Cultural Sector’

Wednesday, 30 March, 2022 - 10:00 to 11:30

Online, via Zoom

Free

How should the cultural sector take action to address the lack of D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent trustees?

Join us as we host an online ‘think in’, coinciding with the publication of a new report exploring the benefits and barriers to board membership for disabled people within the arts and cultural sector.  Place/s at the Table is an opportunity to hear from report author, Tim Wheeler, alongside other key voices in the disability and governance debate. We also want to hear opinions, ideas and suggestions from people across the sector - those with lived experience of disability and those without; those currently engaged at board level and those who aren’t – to help determine what actions should be taken. We will spend some focussed time gathering your initial responses to the report and asking:

·         What change is required to improve as a sector?
·         What can we learn from the research?
·         How might we act on recommendations in the report?
·         What are the priorities and resources needed and who needs to lead the change?

This free session will run for 90 minutes (including a comfort break), including contributions from Hilary Carty, Andrew Miller, Sarah Pickthall, Michèle Taylor, Jo Verrent & Tim Wheeler as well as time for a round-table discussion for all attendees.  The session will be live captioned and BSL interpreted.

A facilitated discussion about disability and governance in the Cultural Sector and how we can take action.

Wednesday 30 March 2022. Online, via Zoom.

Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
