Mark Ball

I was appointed Creative Director of Manchester International Festival (MIF) in June 2017, where I am responsible for leading the artistic programme for The Factory, MIF’s new large scale venue for arts and culture scheduled to open in 2021.

From April 2009 to June 2017 I was Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT), one of Europe’s leading arts festivals.

Between 2015-16 I also took on the part-time. temporary role of Executive Director, Arts and Culture, Arts Council England.

From January 2008 – April 2009 I was Head of Events and Exhibitions at the Royal Shakespeare Company, establishing a new department focussed on developing new work and new audiences. From 1998 - 2007, I was the Founding Artistic Director of Fierce!, an annual international festival of theatre, live art and contemporary dance taking place in Birmingham and across the West Midlands.

I have served on a wide range of Boards as Chair of artsdepot, as a governor of Southbank Centre, Fellowship Council Member of the RSA and a trustee of Frantic Assembly and Live Art Development Agency.
