Clore Fellow Sandeep Mahal has been announced the Director of The Space – a new company jointly established by Arts Council England and the BBC for artists and audiences to invent and explore brilliant digital art.
Sandeep is currently a Fellow on the Clore Leadership Programme and will join as Director of The Space this September, following seven years with the Reading Agency where she is Programme Manager - Partnerships.
Sandeep says that “in the short time I’ve been seconded to The Space, I have fostered a deep appreciation for the arts and creative industries. The remarkable opportunity to dream about what artists can make to move, inspire and challenge us in a digital space, was too good to resist. I am honoured to play a part in that process and to support, champion and celebrate great artists and their great work. I am tremendously grateful to the Clore Fellowship Programme.”
Ruth Mackenzie CBE, Interim Launch Director and CEO of The Space:
“I am thrilled and delighted that Sandeep is joining The Space. Sandeep is a much-respected and influential leader with a remarkable ability to build successful partnerships in a way that combine grace with acuity. These skills will be of enormous value to The Space and will give us the strongest possible platform to establish a head office in Birmingham, where Sandeep will lead new partnerships with Birmingham's creative, cultural and tech industries. I am a great admirer of The Reading Agency's work; a relationship I look forward to continuing.”
