In July
2006 we started a programme of Short Courses based on the highly
effective residential element of the Clore Fellowship Programme. To
date, twelve courses have taken place at venues across the United
Kingdom with a further five courses scheduled for the remainder of 2008.
These
intensive two-week residential courses are produced in association with
leading universities and business schools and are designed for people in
the middle ranks of larger cultural organisations or those near the top
of smaller ones who have a minimum of 5 years’ work experience.
The
Short Courses are designed for as wide a range of people as possible and
each course has a maximum of 25 participants. Previous participants have
included representatives from Akram Khan Company, English Heritage, the
National Theatre, Oxford Playhouse, Scottish National Galleries, Welsh
National Opera and Youth Music in addition to freelance practitioners
and consultants.
The
Clore Short Courses emerged from the decision of the Chancellor of the
Exchequer to provide £12 million over two years from 2006/7 to help
raise management and leadership skills in the cultural sector.
