After
five years, the Rt Hon Lord Smith of Finsbury is stepping down
as Director of the Clore Leadership Programme for the cultural
sector. He will take up a new appointment as Chair of the
Environment Agency in July but will remain involved in the Clore
Leadership Programme as a member of its Strategy Board.
Dame
Vivien Duffield, Founding Patron of the Clore Leadership
Programme, said today: “We are hugely indebted to Chris Smith
for his tireless work in steering the Leadership Programme so
successfully through its first five years. His personal
commitment has been an inspiration. I look forward to a
continuing association with him on the Clore Leadership
Programme Strategy Board as we work to develop the Programme
into the future.”
Chris
Smith said: “The Clore Leadership Programme has already
succeeded – in just five years – in making a real difference to
the cultural sector. To have been involved from the outset and
to have helped to put the Programme on the map so strongly has
been a real privilege. It’s a tribute to the support we’ve had
from the Clore Duffield Foundation that so much has been
achieved.”
The Clore
Leadership Programme, which was initiated by the Clore Duffield
Foundation, aims to strengthen leadership across a wide range of
cultural activities, including the visual and performing arts,
film, heritage, museums, libraries and archives, creative
industries and cultural policy and administration.
Working
with a wide range of agencies, the Programme offers Fellowships
and Short Courses for individual leaders and development days
for the Boards of Directors of cultural organisations. It
champions excellence and acts as an advocate for the vital role
of cultural leadership in the UK. The search for a new Director
will commence shortly.
The Clore
Duffield Foundation will also shortly be launching a new Clore
Social Leadership Programme for the third sector (see
www.cloreduffield.org.uk for
details). |
