The Chancellor of the Exchequer,
The Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP has announced new funding of £12 million
for skills development and leadership training in the arts and
cultural sector in today's Budget. The Treasury looked in detail at
the success of the Clore Leadership Programme in its first year as
part of its research for the new funding programme.
The Rt Hon Chris Smith MP,
Director of the Clore Leadership Programme said: "During
the first year of the Clore Leadership Programme, two things have
become very clear: there is a real need for leadership training and
development in the cultural sector; and the potential talent is
certainly there. Cultural and creative organisations need to be well
run and well led; that way, the quality of the artistic activity
can shine through and have the greatest impact."
The Clore Leadership Programme is an initiative of the Clore Duffield
Foundation and aims to help in cultivating a new generation of
cultural leaders for the UK. Fellows are selected annually from the
cultural sector or beyond, to undertake a year-long programme of work,
research, tuition, mentoring and secondment designed to develop the
leadership skills and experience of each individual. Fellows have the
option of remaining with their present employers, following the
Programme part-time, or of taking a career break and receiving a
full-time bursary of £20,000. The major funding partners for the
Programme include Arts Council England, the Museums, Libraries and
Archives Council (MLA), NESTA and the Clore Duffield Foundation.
Direct associated costs, including tuition fees, are met by the
Programme.
The Founder and Patron of the Clore Leadership Programme is Dame
Vivien Duffield DBE.
