Yorkshire
Culture and Yorkshire Forward announced today that they will be
supporting a 2007/8 Yorkshire
Fellowship
within the Clore Leadership Programme. Together with up to thirty
other potential leaders specially selected by the Clore Leadership
Programme from across the UK
and beyond, the Yorkshire Fellowship will be for
an exceptional individual who intends to develop their career as a
cultural leader in Yorkshire
.
The Yorkshire
Fellow will participate in two intensive residential leadership
courses; receive professional development through mentoring, tuition
and group learning; undertake an in-depth research project, supervised
by a Higher Education Institution; and be seconded to an organisation
very different from their own, where they will have experience of
managing a challenging project.
Clive Leach,
Chair of Yorkshire Culture, welcomed the news for the Yorkshire
region: "This is a further example of the value
of strong partnerships in the
Yorkshire
region delivering real results for the cultural
sector. We are delighted that Yorkshire Forward and the region's
cultural agencies have come together to support the leadership
challenge in this way. I am sure that the Yorkshire Fellow will be a
great asset to the region".
Lord Smith of
Finsbury, Director of the Clore Leadership Programme, said: "This is
a remarkable opportunity for an outstanding individual from Yorkshire
to develop their leadership skills, talent and
confidence within the cultural sector. This Fellowship can provide a
major benefit for the successful candidate, for the cultural life of
the region, and for
Yorkshire
's future more generally".
The 2007/8
Yorkshire Fellow will follow in the footsteps of other cultural
leaders based in the region. Susie Hargreaves, who received a
Fellowship in 2006, said: "Being
awarded a Fellowship has been a great honour and a fantastic
experience to date. Not only has it given me access to some of the
most inspirational people in the cultural sector today, but has also
provided me with the means to take 'time out' to reflect on my
experience to date, to learn from my peers and from leading thinkers
and experts, and, finally, to make plans for the future".
Bev Morton, Chief Executive of Artworks and Yorkshire Fellow
in 2005/6 added: "The development and learning you experience as a
Clore Fellow exceeds the personal and professional growth that most
people achieve in a life-time. If you grab the Fellowship by both
hands and aim high, it will change your life, I guarantee it".
The closing
date for applications for the Fellowship for Yorkshire
is
19th February 2007. The
name of the Fellow will be announced in June.
