Yorkshire
Culture and Yorkshire Forward announced today that they will be
supporting three Yorkshire Fellowships within the Clore Leadership Programme.
Together with only twenty-four other potential leaders specially
selected by the Clore Leadership Programme from across the
UK
and beyond, the Yorkshire Fellowships will be for
people who intend to develop their career as cultural leaders in
Yorkshire
.
With generous
support from Yorkshire Culture, Yorkshire Forward and the Clore
Duffield Foundation, the Yorkshire Fellows will participate in two
intensive residential leadership courses; receive professional
development through mentoring, tuition and group learning; undertake
an in-depth research project, supervised by a Higher Education
Institution; and be seconded to an organisation very different from
their own, where they will have experience of managing a high level
project.
Clive Leach,
Chair of Yorkshire Culture, welcomed the news for the
Yorkshire
region: "This is a further example of the value
of strong partnerships in the
Yorkshire
region delivering real results for the cultural
sector. We are delighted that Yorkshire Forward and the region's
cultural agencies have come together to support the leadership
challenge in this way. I am sure that the three
Yorkshire
Fellows will be a great asset to the region".
Sue Hoyle,
Deputy Director of the Clore Leadership Programme, commented: "This
is a remarkable opportunity for three outstanding people from
Yorkshire
to develop their leadership skills, talent and
confidence within the cultural sector. The three Yorkshire Fellowships
can provide a major benefit for the successful candidates, for the
cultural life of the region, and for
Yorkshire
's future more generally".
The 2005/2006
Yorkshire Fellows will follow in the footsteps of Susanna Eastburn,
Artistic Director of Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, who
received a Fellowship in 2004. "Participation in the Clore
Leadership Programme is opening up a whole world of experience and
understanding to me and this will be a watershed year in my
professional life," Susanna said. "What I hadn't fully
anticipated was how important the bond between all the Fellows would
be, and I think this peer group will be a force to be reckoned with in
the future".
The closing
date for applications for the Fellowships for
Yorkshire
is 25
February. The names of the
Fellows will be announced in June.
