Applications
open on 17 January for the Paul
Hamlyn Foundation Fellowship for Northern
Ireland within the Clore Leadership Programme. One of only
twenty-five potential leaders specially selected by the Clore
Leadership Programme from across the
UK
and beyond, the Fellow for
Northern Ireland
will be someone who has a particular interest in
community arts or work with children and young people.
The 2005/2006 Fellow will follow in the footsteps of Katrina
Newell, Youth Arts Co-ordinator
for the New Lodge Arts Project in
Belfast
, who was the first recipient of the Paul Hamlyn
Foundation Fellowship.
"The
Fellowship has provided me with the opportunity of learning from the
best in the field while developing my leadership skills through a
personalised programme of training, practical experience and
research", said Katrina. "It is enabling me to realise my own
potential as a leader working with young people through the arts; but
the main winners will be the young people I work with. I'll be
better able to help them realise their potential too."
Generously
supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the Fellow for Northern
Ireland will participate in two intensive residential leadership
courses; receive professional development through mentoring, tuition
and group learning; undertake an in-depth research project, supervised
by a Higher Education Institution; and be seconded to an organisation
very different from their own, where they will have experience of
managing a high level project.
Michael Hamlyn,
Trustee of The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, said:
"We support ideas which enhance young people's experience
and involvement in creative opportunities. The Paul Hamlyn Foundation
is funding a Fellowship for
Northern Ireland
to help develop the talents of individuals to lead
community and other arts organisations more effectively to inspire
young people".
The closing
date for applications for the Fellowship for
Northern Ireland
is 25
February. The name of the
Fellow will be announced in June.
