The
Welsh Assembly Government announced today that it will be supporting a
Fellowship for Wales within
the Clore Leadership Programme. Together with only twenty-six other
potential leaders specially selected by the Clore Leadership Programme
from across the UK and beyond, the Fellow for Wales will be a
developing individual working within the sector who intends to develop
their career as a cultural leader in Wales.
With
funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and its Arts Council Wales
and the Clore Duffield Foundation, the Fellow for Wales will
participate in two intensive residential leadership courses; receive
professional development through mentoring, tuition and group
learning; undertake an in-depth research project, supervised by a
Higher Education Institution; and be seconded to an organisation very
different from their own, where they will have experience of managing
a high level project.
Peter Tyndall, Chief
Executive, The Arts Council of Wales, welcomed the news:
"The Arts Council of Wales is delighted to be supporting a
Fellowship for Wales within the Clore Leadership Programme.
The Clore Fellowship is a great opportunity to develop future
cultural leaders for Wales's vibrant and active cultural sector.
We are very grateful to the Welsh Assembly Government for
supporting this initiative."
Minister
for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport Alun Pugh
said:
"I am pleased to support the establishment of this
scholarship with funding of £20,000. This is another example of the
Welsh Assembly Government's commitment to developing the arts in Wales
and I'm sure that this professional development opportunity will bring
great benefits for the arts scene in Wales."
Sue
Hoyle, Deputy Director of the Clore Leadership Programme, commented:
"This is a remarkable opportunity for an outstanding individual from
Wales to develop their leadership skills, talent and confidence within
the cultural sector. The Fellowship can provide a major benefit for
the successful candidate, for cultural life, and for the future of
Wales more generally".
The
closing date for applications for the Fellowship for Wales is
25 February.
The name of the Fellow will be announced in June.
