The
Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has announced today that
it will be sponsoring the England's Northwest Fellowship
within the Clore Leadership Programme. Together with only
twenty-six other potential leaders specially selected by the Clore
Leadership Programme from across the UK and beyond, the England's
Northwest Fellowship will be for someone who intends to develop their
career as a cultural leader in the Northwest.
The
NWDA's funding, together with additional support from the Clore
Duffield Foundation and Culture Northwest, will enable the England's
Northwest Fellow to participate in two intensive residential
leadership courses; receive professional development through
mentoring, tuition and group learning; undertake an in-depth research
project, supervised by a Higher Education Institution; and be seconded
to an organisation very different from their own, where they will have
experience of managing a high level project.
Steve
Broomhead, Chief Executive NWDA, said: "Cultural and creative
industries are immensely important to us in the Northwest,
contributing in excess of £1.7 billion to the regional economy. The
Agency is therefore extremely pleased to support this important
programme which will not only provide much-needed support to talented
individuals, but also highlights the Agency's firm commitment to
training, leadership and skills development. I am confident that this
initiative will further enhance the region's creative sector and
ensure that it continues to thrive."
Chris
Smith, Director of the Clore Leadership Programme, commented: "This
is a remarkable opportunity for an outstanding individual from the
Northwest to develop their leadership skills, talent and confidence
within the cultural sector. England's Northwest Fellowship can provide
a major benefit for the successful candidate, for the cultural life of
the region, and for the future of the Northwest more generally".
The
2005/2006 England's Northwest Fellows will follow in the footsteps of
Gavin Reid, General Manager of Manchester Camerata, who received a
Fellowship in 2004. "This has been
a life-changing experience for me," said Gavin. "The
Fellowship is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who wants to make a
real difference to their own life and that of their community."
The
closing date for applications for England's Northwest Fellowship is
25 February.
The name of the Fellow will be announced in June.
