Introduction

The Clore Leadership Programme is designed to help develop the knowledge, skills, networks and experience of potential leaders across a wide range of cultural activities. This includes the visual and performing arts, heritage, museums, libraries and archives, and cultural policy and administration. We offer about twenty-five Fellowships a year to exceptional individuals who are either working within the cultural sector, or who are working outside it but demonstrate a knowledge, understanding and passion for culture. If you want to apply for a Fellowship, you must be able to demonstrate most or all of the following attributes:

  • A Passion for Culture

you must have the potential to enthuse and inspire those both within and outside your organisation and to gain the respect of the cultural sector

  • Proven Achievement

in your professional life

  • Self-awareness

this includes recognising the strengths and gaps in your own experience, and identifying clear personal objectives for the Fellowship

  • Motivation

and a sense of purpose

  • Effective communication

in writing, speaking and in groups, you must be competent and comfortable with technology, skilled in presentation and negotiation, and sensitive to others' interests

  • An enquiring mind

you must have the capacity to reflect and learn, have interests beyond your current specialism and an awareness of the wider context

  • Sound judgement

you need the ability to analyse complex information, assess risk and make choices, and the confidence and courage to take decisions

  • A team player

you must have the ability to motivate and develop others, to set high standards for yourself and others, to form, value and give inspiration to a team, to be hands-on and to delegate when appropriate

  • Flexibility

you should think laterally and creatively, innovate, solve problems and encourage change

  • Integrity

you must demonstrate honesty, authenticity, humility and openness, and welcome diversity

We will also be looking for the extra imaginative "spark" that marks an outstanding potential leader. This should give us an indication that you will be able to initiate and innovate, to energise and inspire, as well as deliver.

"I feel (and I am) a more rounded leader, able to do my job better." Matt Peacock, Founder & Executive Director of Streetwise Opera, 2004/5 Fellow
