Example of a day's programme
 

 

9.30am-10am : Board members only             

General introduction about the need for good corporate governance and what this includes. Members will have been invited to list (anonymously) what they feel they bring to the Board and any problems they have with their membership. Discuss findings.  

10am-10.45am : Board members only  

Session about Procedures (Composition/Recruitment/Diversity/Board policies) and Information: Do Board members feel that they represent their constituency and cover diversity in its fullest sense? Are proper recruitment processes in place? Do Board members feel they are adequately consulted and briefed?

10.45am-11.30am : Board members only   

Break out session and ensuing discussion: The topics for debate would be specifically tailored around areas where the Board is either seen to face specific challenges or is perceived as having weaknesses.                       

11.30am-11.45am : Coffee break, joined by Senior Staff  

11.45am-1.00pm : Board members & Senior Staff  

Session with Charity Expert/Lawyer: On the Purposes and Responsibilities of Board members.  

1.00pm-2.00pm : Lunch  

2.00pm-3.30pm : Board members & Senior Staff  

Session with financial expert: On the necessary involvement of Board members with finance

3.30pm-4.30pm : Board members & Senior Staff  

Break out session and ensuing discussion: Topics would centre on Board/Executive relationships in areas such as artistic risk, fundraising, education, risk management and financial control.  

4.30pm-5.00pm : Board members only  

Final discussion over tea: What has been learnt from the day? Are any changes necessary to the Board’s method of working? Does the Board need to address its own diversity? How will any change be accomplished?
