| We are not looking for perfectly
formed leaders, but if you wish to be considered for a Fellowship,
you will need to explain in your application how
the Fellowship will make a difference to you. We aim to develop your skills and attributes as a
leader through experience, research, tuition and other learning
opportunities. If your application is successful, we will
meet with you before you begin your programme to discuss your needs, circumstances and aspirations,
and agree your personal objectives for the Fellowship.
We will try
to be flexible in planning your Fellowship. For example, some
Fellows will want to do the programme full-time over ten to twelve
months, from September 2008
to July 2009. Others may prefer to do the programme over an extended
period of up to two years, continuing to work on a
freelance basis or staying employed at their
current place of work. Should you choose this option you will need to spend substantial periods away from work commitments for the
residential leadership courses, research period and three- to
four-month secondment. You will also need to allow time away from
your usual work space for the modular elements of your programme
such as tuition and other learning
opportunities.. (For
those in employment, we may compensate your organisation for costs
they incur as a result of your absences).
Please note: you cannot
combine the Fellowship Programme with continuous full-time employment or
education.
Fellows benefit during the
programme from the development of leadership and other transferable
skills, practical work-based experience, research on a specific
project of practical value to your area of work, and mentoring.
Fellows develop an invaluable network of contacts across the field of
culture and beyond and you will be given unparalleled access to to
senior figures in the cultural field.
Developing
leadership
Successful applicants will be invited to a
conference to be held in London in June 2008, at which the names of
the 2008/9
Fellows will be announced. An initial meeting will be arranged
during the summer to discuss your needs and to start to plan your
secondment, research, mentoring and tuition. You will take part in a
two-week residential leadership course from Monday 15 to Friday 26 September
2008, which will be held at Bore Place in Kent. Attendance at the course is essential because
it will lay the foundation for you to build and improve your leadership skills throughout the
year, and enable you to get to know the other Fellows on the
programme. There will be a second
residential course for all 2008/9 Fellows from Monday 22 June to Friday
3 July 2009.
Developing skills
A range of tuition opportunities
will be available to individuals, small groups or the full cohort of
Fellows. These will include, for example, presentation skills, media awareness,
marketing, fundraising and governance. For some of your tuition, we
will provide funds for you to attend a choice of open courses in universities,
business schools or specialist organisations.
Secondment
At the core of the programme is a
three- to four-month secondment to an organisation
very different from your own, in
which you will manage a challenging project. We will agree with you the
organisation which best suits your needs, interests and objectives.
You may want to link this practical experience to your period of
research.
Research
During the Fellowship, you will
investigate in depth an aspect of culture which has practical
relevance to your field of work. You will be supervised by the
higher education institution most appropriate for your research
proposal. Whatever your knowledge or educational background, you
will receive guidance at the appropriate level on methods of
research and will have opportunities to share your findings with
others.
Mentoring
As a Fellow, you will have a
personal development plan and will receive support and advice from
the Director and Deputy Director of the Clore Leadership Programme
as well as from a specially selected mentor. We will hold regular
meetings to review progress and discuss any changes to your
programme. You may have access to coaching
when you make the move from the Fellowship programme back to the
workplace.
"The Clore Leadership
Programme has undoubtedly changed my life, both in terms of career,
which has developed massively, and in terms of my self-knowledge" Gavin
Reid, Director, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, 2004/5 Fellow
